I felt that – due to my general health – I was not up to the task and it was in the best interests of the game, the ICC and myself that I step down and hand over to my colleague Asad Rauf.
"I have been in discussions with the ICC since my return from Australia and we have agreed that I will undergo a series of medical assessments. We will then discuss my future and my position as an ICC elite umpire.
"I would also like to state clearly that my withdrawal had nothing whatsoever to do with the decision review system.
"I remain a proponent of the use of technology as it helps the reduction of the obvious umpiring errors.

Benson was reported to have aired his displeasure after the second of two not out decisions he gave for Australian caught behind appeals against Shivnarine Chanderpaul was overruled by third umpire Rauf.
Pakistani Rauf, who was adjudicating as television umpire, upheld Benson’s first ruling, much to the displeasure of the bowler Doug Bollinger and Australia captain Ricky Ponting.
However, Benson’s second decision was overruled despite there being no clear evidence of contact with the bat from the ‘Hot Spot’ technology employed in the decision-review process.
However, ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat countered: "I sincerely hope that after Mark’s clarification, all speculation will be put to rest.",Air Yeezy;
Benson flew back to the UK on Sunday and spent yesterday conversing with his direct boss at the ICC Vince van der Bijl.
Benson has a recent history of health problems – he was due to stand in the first four matches of India’s one-day series against Australia,Air Max 180, which began in late October, but failed to make the field in any match due to high blood pressure and stomach problems.
Whether Benson remains on the list of 12 elite-level umpires, alongside compatriot Ian Gould, will be decided in the coming weeks.
"It’s going to be up to him," ICC general manager Dave Richardson said. "But we are only able to contract a certain number of umpires and only if they are up to the job."
