NEW YORK, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ — Mike Byster, mathematical whiz and former commodities trader, will visit New York City Independent School 87 in Queens on Jan. 29 to support the National Brainstorming Tour and present his innovative and interactive math and memory program, Brainetics(TM) to students. Byster uses Brainetics to teach students core math concepts, including pattern recognition, memorization techniques and formulas, in fun new ways.
The 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress mathematics report shows increased percentages of students performing at or above Basic and Proficient in grades 4 and 8, yet the continual need for math education gain is critical. Brainetics is a new method to educate and inspire children in math and learning.
The presentation at IS 87 in Queens will last about an hour, during which he will teach sample techniques and strategies from his Brainetics program. Byster has spent the last decade developing the Brainetics program while giving more than 5,000 volunteer presentations in schools across the country. Byster has the ability to teach children how to do potentially complicated and frustrating math problems — all in their heads, without calculators — through memory games and entertaining exercises, stimulating the learning process and igniting their interest to achieve.
“When I was a kid, I made up games to help me with numbers,” said Byster. “I now share what helped me, in order to get kmyds excited about learning too. My commitment to youth education kick-started when I volunteered to teach my math tricks to a cousin’s class over a decade ago. It’s an amazing reward, teaching kids to master problems they never thought possible. The confidence it builds at such a critical learning age goes a long way in life.”
Byster’s year-long cross country trek for the Brainetics(TM) National Brainstorming Tour includes schools in Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington D.C., with additional cities to be announced throughout the year. The presentations are no cost to the schools and are designed to give children 4th grade and above confidence in their abilities.
Byster will also be promoting Brainetics(TM), his 5 DVD and workbook set with entertaining math and memory practice problems and helpful hints.
